Day and Night

Day and Night

I tremble against the pounding wind.

My heart flutters and skips a beat.

Attrition of the day I witness.

Yet what began in my mind as the day’s events

are now melting sugar in a bowl of cream,

which becomes a life.

As I forget what I wanted to say,

I clutch the railing and pray my Soul to live forever.

Though Day and Night may change,

they lead always to the same.

Day and Night are one.

Like all the flowers in the garden that have hung their heads,

I succumb to the Great Sleep,

A leaf in the wind subject to the Morrow,

and to a life whose joys and pains are only Sorrow.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
