Poem Commentary

This is only part of my own little world I live in I fear if I say to much more about it others will find a way in and destroy its importance to me.

Daydream

Sitting alone in the room,
My head on my hands,
Staring out at the cars in the parking lot,
The pavement fades.

I see the dirt covered paths,
Weeds straining to hold themselves up here and there,
The shadows of birds flying over head,
Rustling coming from my right,
I glance over,
seeing an old broken down room,
White paint now peeling and browning with age,
It is beatiful,
The once clear windows,
blackened and broken.

I hear the soft Sounds Of footsteps,
A hand touches my shoulder,
"Olivia Come on"
Pulled back to life,
I stare at my mother,
Nodding helping her wheel my grandmother back to the car.
"What where you doing before?" she asked,
"Daydreaming Of a world I wish I lived in."
It was only a quiet whisper,
She did not hear it.
I could only sigh,
once again I was pulled away from that world.

I have come to love that world,
The one in my mind,
That Very few know of,
Daydreams

Ahh... Utopia. The place between my ears that I try to visit often. It is such a beautiful place. But, more and more, you will find yourself drawn to reality where bills, income and a plethora of self sufficient adult worries await. I wish I could say it will get easier but, if you look in the right places, you can find contentment in the real world as much as that special land in the mind. Very good job putting it into words. This poem holds a special place in my heart because I know oh so well the desire to be in my hidden world and the jolt of being pulled back to this one. Once again, good job.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
