Dear Father

Dear Father

I cant belive I got my seed
And now im thankin' the god
Forgive ya man for all his sins
That’s why im askin the god

The time for adolescent thinking
Drinkin smoking and hustling
my daughter keep me from my sleep
Shakin cryin and tustlin

A missed the chance to thank to mans
Because he gave me advice
To be the mans and now these niggas
Askin me for advice

I got the lord that gots my back
You askin how I figure
Cause he turned to successful
From a drug dealin nixxa

No sleep cause the sleepin is
The cousin of death
I done gave up drinkin liquor
But I skipped the 12 steps

I found the path
But it was paved with the devil him self
And most my people don’t believe
I took the drank from shelf

I kept a ruger for protection
But gave it smooth to my man
I guess I thought the pistola
Made me feel like a man

Dear father
Im standin at the heavenly gates
I beggin you to let me in
Because my soul cant wait.

I like your poetry. Sometimes we forget thereá a rough side of life and prefer hearts and roses. Then we're slammed back into reality when we read about a person who is overcoming the darkness in his life and his soul. God bless you, keep writing.

cmlestrade, thanks for all of your comments. They are truly appreciated. Your poems are very good as well. Thanks again.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
