Dear Old Friends

Poem Commentary

Not my best, but i came up with it in about five minutes while thinking of friendships lost, friendships gained, and the friendships that have remained

Dear Old Friends

Good friends of long ago
Old friends we've come to know
Those in life that help you grow
But we all have our time to go

Life expands as the universe
To some a blessing to others a curse
The sands of time, grain by grain
Endless change is what stays the same

But those few friends they still remain
Some are wise, others insane
They all remember from where we came
Children no longer, but still the same

Remember then, remember when
Those summer nights way back then
Those summer days would never end
Just spending time with dear old friends.

Friendships lost, friendships gained
some have died, others gone away
And those who have always remained
I remember them all every day.

Young and old, it matters not
those of good are not forgot
they asked for little but gave alot
those dear old friends are all we've got.

Nostalgia is history with a sigh... true subject matter and a very touching poem. 10!!

I always think of my closest friends as the ones I knew from the start. Regardless of where they may be now, or how much/little we see eachother. Growing up with someone, being kids together, playing and laughing. Those memories are like treasures.

Ahhhhhh nostalgia and recognition of the blessings in people who have graced your life and helped to shape you. Great flow. Thanks for sharing..............E

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
