Differences/ Changes

They take place without notice;
No notification; without focus.
Changes come with growth.
Differences come with life.
You can become a man's worst enemy,
When you started off as his wife.
The mind starts to wander.
The body starts to yearn.
As you slowly fall out of love,
Your heart begins to learn
A feeling of endearment
Towards a person you barely know.
The space between you and him
Steadily continues to grow.
You know you both have needs.
You both hace desires.
The feeling of you two floating apart
Is burning like a fire.
The differences...
The changes...
GO way beyond your ranges.
The openess you once had
Closes...
The differences...
The changes...
The growth...
Your life...
The needs...
The desire...
The burning...
The fire...
Changes come with growth.
Differences come with life.
How can you become enemies,
When you were once husband and wife?

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
