    DISCRIMINATION

    July 31, 1989

    Discrimination
    Is a cruel sin.
    It has no boundary
    To one color of skin.

    Whoever, is in
    The minority,
    Is the person who feels
    The cruelty.

    Here in my
    Own native land,
    It's said white skin
    Has the upper hand.

    Since I have traveled,
    To various places,
    I too was shunned
    By other races.

    To find myself,
    In this new situation,
    Helps me understand
    The dedegredation

    Having seen this traite
    As a very grave sin,
    I'll judge no man
    By his color of skin.

Discrimination affects everybody, if they are "white", "black", or anything in-between. It affects women, men, homosexuals, bisexuals like myself, transexuals. I too have been judged; because I'm half-"white"/half-Samoan. I'm dark enough to be judged by skin colour, and also "feminine" enough to experience homophobia, or more specifically (although I doubt the people who participate do not realize or care what it is called) biphobia. I really love this poem, and all of your poems for that ex

It's quite an eye opener to be judged this way isn't it? I too was judged unfairly because I am a light skinned Hawaiian....my in-laws didn't accept me at first...it is a painful thing and you have shed light on just a bit of it....good writing my dear friend!

I really liked the feel of this poem! Kept it sincere and introspective throughout. Excellent!!!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
