    Poem Commentary

this is what colonialism did to us

    dream to see

i dream of a day when all my worries for a better dawn will go
i think of a time when the world will change its ways
    they divided us among themselves
we collected their alms for ourselves
we differs but we live near
    afar they came with fear
    clothing themselves as priests
    we fought to no avail
    they threatened us with assimilation
but we only accept their education
i remember my forefathers that died for this sake
i have one regret they never tasted the cake
countries were formed kingdoms were destroyed
i have one pen who will use it
    freedom have to handle it
lets write new words for ourselves
    free of prejudice,greed and division
they have to take the blame
    for they left us lame
the only thing i was born to know was my mother
    they called us mother continent
untill i see my father i won't believe.
