    dresses

    girls in blue dresses
    confused by who arrived
    hated green girl dresses
    how could they all survive
    yellow dress was broody
    when orange did appear
    and purple became moody
    swung from the chandelier
    beige was in the kitchen
    cooking up some ooze
i think she meant to poison
    the strange and pale chartreuse
    rose was in the garden
    poised against the pinks
and black was in the bathroom stalls
    clogging up the sinks
    brown could not behave
    dismantling the beds
while amber dug a shallow grave
    for unsuspecting red
white was in some foul mood
    when introduced to puce
    while fuschia did negotiate
    while fashioning a noose
    but
    when multi-coloured materialized
they all did gasp and cheer
    amazed how she could alchemize
    without a rainbow near
all colours in a crayon box
    a tapestry or terror
to hate is such a paradox
    and such a human error

thank you. this was so much fun to write and came together in an afternoon. thank you so much. predjudice in any form undresses what is really at the core of a person. often reveals the ugly truth.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
