    Poem Commentary

    I wrote this in memory of my grandfather who instilled priceless values about nature and the doors within my life.

    Duck Hunting

     Waking up early today
    To sit in my boat anchored in that shallow mucky bay
    Holding my gun to the sky
    Just gazing at the breathtaking waterfowl flying by


    I don't have a clue why I didn't shoot
    Hunting that day must have been a fluke
    I guess the good lord didn't want me to kill a duck
    So today I have no feathers to pluck


    Sitting and seeing nature unfold in front of me from my boat
    I felt the need to shed my coat
    Breathtaking views everywhere I look
    Like something ripped from a picture book


    I don't hunt for the killing
    Just for my eyes and soul to get a filling
    The wilderness so peaceful and calm
    Wishing I could protect it in my palm


    Crying eyes for the wilderness lost
    Yet everyone jokes about the cost
    I just know that no one will ever see it through my eyes
    So I hope what I see never dies
