Empty Spaces

  • Thinking about writing something new cause it's been a while.

Empty Spaces

A heart so true a face so fair
I remember how you looked standing there
The kindest eyes I'd ever seen
Vulnerable and tender so they seemed

But we were bound for different places
And all that's left are empty spaces
Spaces of distance and bridges burned
An empty heart and a back that was turned

You looked back once and never again
Betrayed your own heart, believed a false friend
And now there are only memories
Like leaves falling from an autumn tree

Wherever your life takes you today
Momories follow to show the way
Tread you path and do what's right
And don't ever give up the fight

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
