My heart is pounding
Filled with so much love
Overflowing with a desire for release
from this prison that I have sentenced myself to
These walls constructed so long ago
have served to shield me
from the dangers of the darkness

I miss the feeling of an embrace
by someone I trust, someone I love
Someone whose need for me extends beyond
the fabricated words falling from their mouth
or their nerve endings filled with want

I keep saying that I feel numb
but that's not true
I feel pain, I feel alone, I feel unwanted,
I feel indifferent to need, lust,
and love
It's from spending too much time in the darkness
searching, always searching
It chips away at your hope

Each time I walk into the abyss
they flock to me
Their hearts are so filled with want
eyes filled with fear and doubt
they ask me to take it away
to free them from their chains
I hold the key in the palm of my hand
and they beg me to use it
What they don't know is,
this key will only work once

Somewhere in the abyss, she awaits
She believes in me
She knows I'm coming for her
but if she doesn't find
the light inside herself
I won't see her through the darkness
and wander forever

The never ending search - One that I myself have journeyed. To find a light in the darkness is always a difficult task. But ... if and when it is found - it will burn eternally.

Thx- Good question

" I'll come find you..." words echo inside and in the darkest myst, two bright eyes shine... ;)

Man that last stanza......hits me hard. The vicious cycle. We drown in darkness and those who could save us don't notice our existence. I would love to find a woman that I could stand against the world with. But it is difficult to hold yourself high enough to be seen. Especially when you're alone and have nobody. Excellent piece.

I think he wants to be free from the negativity of the world he walks in so often. He knows there is more. He has the key by which to free "her," and she believes in him to do so. The question is: Does she believe enough in the light? If not, where does that leave him? MSV

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
