Fading Love

Poem Commentary

...Sigh...This, I wrote for someone who I cared dearly for but he left me to be with an underaged child....I still have feelings for him although not the same ones expressed in this poem....

Fading Love

I thought you’d always love me

At least that’s what you said

But now I know the truth

You were just playing with my head,

I love you with all my heart

And I know I always will

But now I know positively

That isn’t how you feel,

So tell me this right now

Or did you even know?

Did you ever love me

Or just tell me so?

Please don’t leave me waiting

For I can’t wait that long

Because before you know it

Our love will be gone.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
