    Poem Commentary

this is what it is...tell me your truths

    Faith of An Unbeliever

the bells ring for the faithful to attend
the meanings of which i cannot pretend
    i stand outside the edifice,
    wondering at the sacrifice
of a king i shall never  meet
for i doubt he is there to greet
and my life is left hollow inside
a raw pillar to the world of winds
    unweathered despite my many sins
    my constant sorrow a reminisce
trade this life for an eternity of bliss
    if only I could believe
    blindly and forever
the convenience of a shared fantasy
    wouldn’t my life be easier
if only I could fall to my knees and see
    what others find so simple
born into faith like a fawn becomes a deer
think not for what is lost
for what is lost was never yours
the simple life of a fishermen
    casting on overcast shores
the words of men who never knew a saviour
another version of the life everafter
so many questions I can leave at the door
    and never bother to enter
truths left to wither and die
as corpses lie rotting in the morning tide
all these images and all these dreams
    and still I kneel
    feeling less than nothing

I think everyone had the feelings at one point or another, my religous beliefs are very much different than most. But I don't judge others about their beliefs....very well written and I commend your courge for posting this, religion is an easy way to get a fight start! I enjoyed reading this piece. Great layout!

also, I disagree with Lizsia, i think the ending can be interpreted for believer and non believer alike. When you are in love with Christ, and you do something that requires repentence, going before him, you feel like scum, or less than nothing. Just as you feel when you dissapoint any one else you care deeply about. as a nonbeliever, you may not be able to wrap ur mind around something so massive, and seemingly unexplainable. I mean, why would you believe in the breeze since you cannot see....oh, but wait...you can feel it.. mini sermon, lol. But science has done such a good job of explaining EVERYTHING, there is no room for a God that those with little faith cannot see. So when you kneel before the unknown purely out of attraction to others attraction like a moth to a flame... the desire is not in the right place, and so u feel less than nothing. thank you for leaving th end open. I enjoy when I can read someone elses work, but still use my own imagination

this is really, really amazing. Im a chrsitian, and was born into a long line of apostolics, that is not to say that I'm not human I have doubts, same as you, fears, same as you, there were times I would ask my parents a question, or someone else in church, and the answer would be something along the lines of "Because the Bible says so" this only, of course, fueled my desire to know on my own. And like so many other things in life, I researched answers on my own. Your faith is stronger when you develop your own convictions. Fears subside, questions evolve into answers... if you ever want to talk let me know

this poem came out of my catholic upbringing and the frustration i feel everytime i think about faith...when i have never once had even a twinge of it occur inside my own body, and i dont feel that i am an evil, or immoral, or sinful person, no more sinful than you or anybody else...this poem really sums up my experience as an unwilling unbeliever...i dont think that i can ever force faith on myself...thank you for such an indepth comment though, im pleased that i got such a great reaction out of you

Great job describing someone without faith that wished they had the blind trust to follow a faith that they cannot see. I enjoyed it very much.
