    Poem Commentary

    When you have nothing to lose, you have everything to gain. The attack is on fat people, so it seems to be the fashion of this day. There was a time when it seemed to be okay to attack others, for whatever reason, and then we learn, as we always do, we are all just people trying to make a living, and better life for our future. The attack is on me. I will fight back with art and poetry.

    Women

    Witches

    Blacks

    Jews

    Elderly

     

    ... and now...

     

    Fat People

     

    When will we learn?

    Every generation

    faces their foe

     

    Who'll we hate next?

     

    Only Politicians know.

    To beguile a man

    because of weight

     

    Is no different than

    to beguile a man

     

    for race, color or creed.

     

    That is today's fight,

    and tomorrow's sorrow...

    Very smart and intuitive. When I read this I feel that FAT is the new black, (in a manner of speaking)

    Isn't strange that others can't see it the same way? I was asked, "What about smokers?" I just reply that I don't don't attack smokers either, but they actually do have a choice, a very difficult choice, that other groups of people do not.

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
