firstborn

i was the firstborn
in my father’s house
all of the sadness
belonged to me
my two sisters
came after
they brought with them
all of the laughter
that kept my sadness
hidden for so long

i was the firstborn
in my father’s house
the kingdom of heaven
can wait
i’m not lost yet.

The firstborn, easily overlooked,so much expected and placed on their shoulders. Nice piece with an underlying element of strength and hope shining through at the end.

The eldest child bears it all. I relate. I like this poem very much. Out of pain comes creativity, my friend. Very good work.

I like this one, it relays the burden of being eldest. I have heard that the middle child is the "invisible" one and the youngest is the "clown". Nicely put, and great wording!

rey, Yes we eldest children have the burdens to bear. We become young adults quickly. This is a poignant portrayal of a child's view of the family and how emotions are all wrapped up often latent. I love this poem very much it reminds me of a family poem I wrote and no sibling seemed to get it due to my viewpoint being so truly opaque . ginga

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
