For my Baby Butterfly

For my Baby Butterfly

Butterfly, Butterfly where are you
you spread your wings and off you flew,
without a warning or even goodbye
you went home in the blink of an eye

If I could just have you one more day
There are a few more things I need to say
I'd tell you I miss you, I love you and swear
that we will be together again, sometime, somewhere

I'd let you know that your thought of each day of the year
and hold you in my arms and take away your fear
There'd be no more medicine, pain, tubes or machine
there'd only be love, tenderness and serene

Savannah you are thought of more often than not
Your life was so short, but oh the joy that it brought
Your tiny body was frail, but your spirit was strong
We knew your time was short, it wouldn't be long

One day I'll be with you, together again
Mother and daughter, for eternity and then
We'll cherish our lives, our deaths & beyond
hand in hand we will walk, an endless bond.

Ah the elusive butterfly which gives us joy for too short a while.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
