    For The Birds

    Easily overlooked
    I stay in my cage
    Venturing out impulsively
    When loneliness sets in
    Tom make myself seen
    Squawking at passersby
    I am seen
    Enjoying the attention
    and bob with glee
    not noticing the stares
    all aimed at me
    Coming back to myself
    I notice the gawkers
    surrounding my cage
self consciously I duck my head
    crawling back through my gate
    Overlooked one more
    I huddle in my cage
    venturing no more
than quick peaks through the gate
no longer stared at or noticed
    happily keeping to myself
whistling and bobbing in the mirror
    a much safer crowd
    myself

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
