Foreboding Nightmare

Poem Commentary

My boyfriend left to the sandbox yesterday after only three weeks home.this was my experience the night before. For the first time ever during his service to our country I am fearful of what the near future holds

Foreboding Nightmare

Arms holding tight around a moment,

Collecting a memory from the present

I sigh ever deep knowing tomorrow

You will leave me again in sweet sorrow

I catch the scent of your breath

While my lips kiss your chest

Listening to Love's gentle sound

kept safely where your heartbeat's found

I pray you'll keep me tucked inside

When your departure carries you out on a tide

Sleepiness glazes an open eye

Masking tears it would otherwise cry

Lashes above meet others below

Lids try to fight off sleep til after you go

But time takes it's stance in the midnight hour

Underneath a dark moon and a milky way shower

I drift off into an unwanted foreboding sleep

Where death makes you his to forever keep

A dream or phantom, fear or a warning

That shall haunt me now every upcoming morning

I awake with a thundering scream of your name

Though the night is calm and the seas are tame

In one swift move of fearful emotion

I sling sheets away in awoken commotion

I reach out for you in pain staking dread

To find you're still with me, and not yet dead

You question what in me caused such a reaction

And I place upon you a kiss of distraction

I whisper I love you and drift back to rest

Inside the warmth of your sweet arms nest

The sun does as always inevitably rise

Despite my request that it compromise

And the departing hour does fast approach

A familiar time that I detest in life most

The time when the waves call you their way

To go spread some light where darkness is day

Measures of time, drift to and fro

As one moment you're here and the next you must go

I toss in a bottle the dream's unspoken word

And hope it will find you and it's message be heard

A warning last night in a dream was sent me

One that I couldn't express to thee

Be careful my love what the ocean does hold

Danger draws near where the waters turn cold

I should have shared what was shown to me

But it wouldn't have changed who you are meant to be

You would have still set sail in bravery

To fulfill your life's true destiny

So keep an ever watchful eye

On land and waters and the sky

I'll be waiting here in our love's retreat

Praying that my nightmare you will defeat

the empathy you have conveyed regarding your love and fear for this man is very powerful MysticFire. I believe that dreams are the escape valves of the mind designed to release inner pressures of our wakened lives. your dream was not so much a warning to fear, but a necessity. best wishes for you both.

I found this to be very sweet and well ordered. I enjoyed it and know that the final product will be finer yet.. Good job hun.. hugs SilverGirl
