FORGOTTEN TREAT
Dark memories creep in on me,
troubling my soul,
haunting my dreams.
The dark remembered moments
nothing as it seems.
I shudder at the remembrance,
the fear that froze me tense.
The barking dog,
charging through the brush.
my brothers,
urging me to rush.
The forgotten Popsicle dropped in fright.
Running away with all my might.
I turn to retrieve my frozen treat.
Only to witness,
my brothers defeat.
The dogs bearing teeth penetrated skin.
In this fight,
my brother could not win.
Later a smirk I'd have to hide,
When it was announced,
the bite was on his backside.
Years later now as I reflect,
my brother really saved my neck.
