Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

In this forum poets can get more exposure by posting links to their poems and asking others to read the poems, rate and/or leave comments on them. We are asking that all poets be cordial and respectful when commenting on someone elses poems. You don't want anyone simply telling you that "you suck" and not giving constructive feedback, so please refrain from doing so to others.

Any posts found in this forum considered to be off topic will be immediately deleted. Any user that intentionally continues to post off topic in this or any other of the Original Poetry forums, or is being deliberately rude or disrespectful to others, may be subject to further discipline (up to, but not excluding a permanent ban) at the discretion of the forum moderators.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

This is OUTSTANDING news! Firstly it gets rid of that nonsense that was going on, and secondly, it makes people give constructive criticism....not bashing...I think it's great; I always felt a little wierd even rating a poem on a scale of 1-10, because I felt, who am I to rate someone else's feelings and experiences? These poems are personal stuff! Anyway, I think it is unfortunate that the webmaster has to remind everyone to be cordial and respectful, but I am grateful that he/she/they are taking this step.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

HOORAY, finally. grin

And yes, sk, poems are personal. But I never do any rating based on what I think someone else feels or what I think their personal experience was/is. I have to rate the poem as a finished creation, period. I have yet to read a poem that did not deserve a 10 for emotional intensity - but that is not what I am supposed to rate - is it?

Again, thank you to site creators. Thank you, thank you, thank you ..........

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

Ah FOF, that's what makes this such a great site...poets judging other poets! One person judges content, the other judges context...in the end it seems everyone contributes their own portion to the process...I have to judge based on how the poem makes me feel and whether it's something I would want to read again...I think the two judgment styles compliment on another.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

Hi everyone! I am new to this site. I read and rated a few poems before I posted some of mine. I think we all should. Exposure is what we are looking for and that is a way to get all poems read.

We are lucky to have a place to put our work for the world to see. My thanks to the owner of this site.

I understand what you are saying suzystars I am new to this site as well. I also think that we should think that not everyone that is on this site might have the time to be on here as much as they would like. I know that there are tings that I would like to do more of but in the business of life just don't. I am just glad to find a site that allows us to get some of our work reviewed by others who enjoy this art form.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

Hello all, I am new to this site. I used to post on Poetry.com but stopped for reasons I won't get into. I enjoy reading and rating other poets because nobody and I mean nobody understands a poet better than another poet. We put our souls on paper for all to read hoping maybe someone might gain some personal insight or something. I write because I like to delve into unknowns, I like to put myself into situations I might never see and I play with notions and feelings, twisting and distorting them in hopes that the reader will think and not just read. I think the hardest thing about rating another poet is not comparing yourself to that poet, saying things like I might have done this different or I wouldn't have said that at that point of the poem yada yada yada, we all write differently and no one knows what we are thinking when we do write. Anyway good luck to all and lets create images and feelings that sooth our ever restless brains.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

I just found this site and it was truly a blessing. I love to write and read poetry. I mostly free style, but I am trying to get into the habit of drafting my poetry. So if you wonderful poets would examine my work and offer feedback it will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

I am new to this site and I do have some poetry I wrote 20 years ago and it was collecting dust. When I broke it out for this site some of my pieces I thought were fair others I could not relate to. Some I think worthy have been posted with others to follow if readers want to read more. Please consider the worthiness of this stuff.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

Hello everyone
I'm new to Original-Poetry. I have a couple friends here already from a previous site.
I would like to say: I'd love to have an in depth critique from anyone that would offer it; and I would do the same for that person as well. I would appreciate a line of line look at the structure of any individual piece. For what I can't imagine is what another can see within what is on the page. This as a writer is a gift from one to another when it is done openly. For a critique belongs to the person that writes it; and the poem always belongs to the poet that wrote it. And it is a know fact that writing a good critique is helpful to one's own work. By looking at someone else's work in depth you become more conscious of your own work. You become my self critical of your writing. Your personal writing becomes stronger because of your personal insights withing your critiques.

So as far as any of my pieces are concerned; rip it to shreds and and hand me back that pieces to reconstruct . I'd love it. I what any other writer's deepest concerns about their craft of writing. I want to hear their heart speak to me about what they see on the page with their understanding of the craft. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain from listening to another writer speak about my work through their eyes. Their eyes see what I could never see any other way but through their gift of a critique.

I've been in some heavy hitting workshops and know what in depth critiques are all about. I've seen first hand how constructive criticism can help make a single piece stronger and more direct. I would greatly appreciate anyone offering a real study from their point of view. And I'm more than willing to do the same in return. If you want me to start just ask. I would alway consider a critique a personal gift, and I will respect it for what it is that is offered me. Weather I use what is said or not. I what to hear it with all your deepest reasons for the statement made. I don't believe the language is owned by anyone. And my creative understanding lies with what I think is best for any specific piece. This makes me open to all suggestions. And I will make changes if I'm given strong reasons. But also, many times what is offered might lead you to a new understanding of your own work, which means you don't want what someone sees in the work; so you change the poem to read more toward your intent. So in the end I have to say: "Feel free to lay it on me; I want to hear it. I relish it!" Give me your all, and I will offer you the same in return.

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!

One other thing
I have nothing to gain by being over protective of my work.
If my poems need protecting; it is obvious to me they are week.
They are feeble and have short comings if they need protecting to survive.
Sooner or later they have to stand on their own merits as a unique thing or fail in the attempt.
That's life.

This is my first visit to THE FORUM,

I am impressed with the opinions , ideas and "injunctions" here expressed. I enjoy reading and creating poetry. In addition, I indulge a critical eye on poetry at large. I tend to detect bad poetry , at a glance, ( I think this my attitude is unfair to some poets ). On the otherhand , I enjoy commenting on what spontaneously appeals to me as good and carefully crafted poetry. I am gratified that I have not met any "bad' poetry" - careless crafting , now and then-- up to now on this charming and prolific original poetry site. I welcome criticism of my work, whether pleasingly constructive or helpfully adverse. Fellow poets, please read my poems .I'll be readng yours, I promise, and I'll continue to comment, since this is my special indulgence.

##################################################################

Welcome WildDuke.

I am glad to see that you plan to make yourself at home on the OP site. We;come.

HINT, REMEMBER to post the link of a poem you desire to be read, or post the link of your page and the title of the poem. The link makes it easier and quicker to find the poem instantly, faster than making instant coffee...........LOL

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
