Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!Well, this is my first time here... I'd like to get some opinions on my poems "Basement Monster" and "My Hawaii"... If anyone is interested, my parents and teachers have been the only ones to critique them so far, and they say its really good. I'd like to know what you think! |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!I am brand new to this site, but I would like to thank you for inviting me. I love to write and now I can post my poems for every one to read. Thank you |

I have six poems published on Poetry.com and won Semi-Finalists but always wondered without any critiquing...(probably spelled wrong lol) just what my poems were all about. I look forward to receiving your thoughts and ideas for that is how I will grow. God bless you all. Joyce |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!My thanks to the team of people and possibly (Robots) who run and type this site! |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!Although I haven't seen any real duragatory or rude comments since I joined the site three weeks ago I am pleased to see that the site owners are attempting to curtail such behavior. To date the biggest problem that I see is that the majority of poems are going unread, uncommented on and ungraded if they happen to be n the contest. I hope that in the future more people will spend time reading others poems and providing comments. After all its as much about that as it is about just submitting your own poems. Hampton |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!hey everybody im an aspiring poet like the rest of us and have just put my first poem on here. |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!I try to take time to read through several original poems here each week, and though I don't comment on them all, I do rate each one for how I believe the writer delivered their chosen topic in terms of originality, grammatical style, and vertical leap... Originality doesn't necessarily mean something totally new, just delivered in a new, or unique way... Grammatical style is the shape of the delivery itself; ie, how the thoughts were composed into an unmistakable entity with an easily recognizable meaning or moral to it's message... The vertical leap is the easiest for most people to see because it usually leaps out at anyone who reads a piece... It's the clever way of gaining the reader's attention coupled with the wit that captures their curiosity, and the grabber, or hook, in their story that keeps the reader there throughout and makes the reader think to themselves, "this was well done"... Everyone has their own way of evaluating pieces, but this is how I look at every piece to determine whether, or not, it was worth the time I spent on it... BTW, I don't delete people's comments on my own works as I've noticed some do... I consider every comment as representative of the person who wrote it; it's about who and what they are; never anyone else... Good luck to everyone who posts here... |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!live today as if it is your last day here on earth. I am a survivor and that is why I write about my life, hoping others will be inspired by my experiences. I love to create what is in my heart and soul. whether it be positive or negative these are the emotions that I feel need to be freed from my heart into this site. |

Re: Sticky: READ BEFORE POSTING!I just want to say hello to everyone and say that i am so very glad that i found this site. I have always just written for myself but now i am anxious to read what others might think of my poems. We Poets write from our hearts and souls and we put everything into what we write in black letters on a white page for others to critique. Please be kind to those you choose to rate for you just never know what has happened to them in their lives. Thank you for the chance to write for others for this is a new experience for me. Thank you |
Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
