Ticks and Tocks

Each tick tock of the clock on the wall,
Marks a second off this life of mine.
Doesn’t seem like very much at all,
But ticks and tocks rightly measure time.

How many tick tocks have you lived,
From the day of your birth until now?
If you tally them your heart will chill,
Make your knees buckle or maybe bow.

Those who have come to three score and ten,
Over two billion seconds gone by.
Big difference between now and then,
From the day of our dawn and first cry.

Count your blessing we are often told.
Could the clock be saying that each day?
Ticks and tocks to remind young and old,
Be grateful for each along the way.

RE: Ticks and Tocks

Hi, I noticed in your second verse, you first and third lines don't rhyme, but they do in all the other verses.

RE: Ticks and Tocks

Guess I thought "lived" and "chill" were close enough. Don't really remember why I left it that way. Thanks for the notice.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
