Poem Commentary

This poem just flowed ffom my mind onto the sheet. It is a feeling of what I would do if I were truly free and I could truly be me./Users/carolynhopkins/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2010/Oct 11, 2010/ist2_107210-freedom.jpg

Free

If I were free,
to truly be me
I would set the world afire.

I would give because there is a need.
I would hug because a hug is needed.
I would dance because it's a passion that feeds me.

If I were free,
to truly be me
I would give the world my arms
and wrap it like a gift
from my heart that wants to warm
the unlovable souls
that nobody neither needs nor wants
so they shut the door and let darkness in

If i were free,
I would be their closet friend.

If I were free,
to truly be me
I would give away the stars
and hold the hefty moon in my hands.
while walking softly in the sand.

If I were free,
and I mean truly free,
there would be no wars
because global peace would overflow
And communication would be the only way to go.
But that is only if I were truly free.

If I were free,
I would love and take the risk
because love is always worth the wait
and the fear it takes to fall in love and give it all a chance.

If I were free,
There would be a place for solitude for all
and time to spend  with one's self
and reflect on what their life has meant.

Free. A powerful oxymoron in a world of obligations.
Free, a word that's complex in a world that's in a mess

But free I am nevertheless.
In my mind, I will always be truly free
in a silent, soft and sacred way.

I choose to be free.

Thank you a well written analytical look at my poem.

So balancing how this poem sees freedom. Though it is free, it seems to spend it in giving. Ironic how society tends to teach us that freedom is "all about us". Indulging in greed. Yet this piece seems to have more faith in balance than power. That what goes around truly does come around. Inspirational piece. Not seeing freedom as the metaphorical gluttony that plauges society, but seeing it as a way to free those caged. Well written.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
