    Poem Commentary

    After joining the active Air Force, in 1985, I was able to put together a short collection of poems. Living in the dorms, alone, away from home, and working rotating shifts as a security policemen, gave me ample to time to reflect on things; especially relationships. This came to me after contemplating the many relationships that I witnessed in which people (couples) seemed to be in this endless battle against one another. And, IF they'd just stop the battle long enough, they'd realize that the person they were throwing stones and arrows at is the one who truly loves them...deeper (probably) than anyone else, they'd have that perfect love they longed for. How's that quote go, "I'm a lover, not a fighter."

    Freedom Fighters

    Free, is what they long to be,
      starting a freedom fight is instead, reality.

    A dream in life, one to fulfill,
      fighting for freedom that is so real.

    Each time they part, only to reunite,
      day after day for freedom they fight.

    Never satisfied with their life,
      they fight for freedom thru a constant strife.

    For it’s freedom they hope they’ll find,
      may their freedom fight ease their mind.

    A freedom that is so close,
      the freedom they fight for means the most.

    Will the freedom help hearts mend,
      will this freedom fight ever end?

    Freedom fighters continued on,
      from dusk till early dawn.

    Looking into the eyes of your loved one,
      your freedom fight is now done.
