    Georgia Lullaby

Pass not by the old dirt road
Through covered bridge and oaks now bowed
To Blue Ridge foot a trail of tears
    Forgotten lore and pioneers

Pass not by fields of green
    Lead unto such placid stream
Where water falls and Kudzu grows
Beside the mount' a Cherokee Rose

Pass not by where rivers run
To catch a glimpse of morning sun
    Savannah sands their lonely dune
    Atlantic Oceans lovely tune

Pass not by ere roadside crest
Where beneath the stones a princess rest
    Eternal youth from waters nourish
    Reach gardens where Azaleas flourish

    Pass not by ancestral graves
Nor shacks of wood that housed the slaves
Pause a moment ...pass not by
    Listen to her lullaby

Pass not by the chance to add, how these lines have left one glad; bucolic write without a sound, invites to look where such is found. I've been to GA and experienced most of these pastoral attractions. Your poem made me want to return for more. Well done, though it would be even more impressive with proper punctuation included, IMHO . HT

Makes me want to trip through georgia appalacias again. Nice meter and a exquisite topic. nicely done. Thanks!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
