Ghost-Child

Ghost-Child

Heartache that never goes away
the memory
a ghost-child
born in a blur of pain and tears
like a vision
came to someone else
not us
No joy of love or new life
child of my child
the answer to a stranger's prayer
so much a part of me
never meant to be mine
Baby boy
object of our guilt and sorrow
of our hope for forgiveness
and understanding
my memory
heartache that never goes away

I have written many poems about children, and miscarriages, and loss. Many just don't understand the pain. Not only do i know it, i have embraced it many times, and cannot seem to let the sweet sorrow go. I'll read yours if you read mine. Great write....

I did not want my daughter to give up her baby, and it haunts me still. Thank you for reading it and your critique.

content wise I've reread it a few times, still I'll have to come back to this one. In regard to structure- I enjoy the way you achieve closure by bookending the first two and last couple of lines. I've done that quite a bit. It just seems orderly, I think.

Is it because you don't understand it or because you recognize more than one meaning....I'm really interested to know why you keep coming back to it....

um i can kind of understand it im really 12 3/4 but im soo confuseing that confuesing stuff to other people is reagular for me.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
