    Given Up

    I lean against the bar,
the rythym of the song punding in my head,
I look up and there's no one,
then I blink and you're there once more.

    You take a step forward,
    air catches in my throat,
I try to move but I cannot,
    You suddenly stop.

You tilt your head looking confused,
you grab my hand in yours,
I close my eyes and whisper,
    "I can't be yours anymore."

    then you're gone.

    ... .. .

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
