Gone By the Years

Gone By the Years

How can such love as strong as steel
Be now a mem'ry of lost years?
What must have happened in between?
Was it washed out by constant tears?

A clear writing in a white chalk
Written on clean gleaming blackboard
Now an image gradually lost
Erased by some stronger force.

There were questions contantly asked
Neither of us wished to discuss
It was better to let them pass
Petty quarrels don't really last.

Misunderstandings not mended
Wounds created got infected
Some pains like virus that has spread
These were the potions that have killed.

Yes, we did try to make it work
Though we both used some other course
Created picture of some sort
Showing a home but without host.

As we approach the near sundown
Can we still turn and look behind?
Perhaps we need to pause a while
Recall some years that have gone by.
