Gone

Gone

I lean out the window

I breathe in the forest air

Rabbits converge outside in back

Scampering away when I cough

Choking back tears of regret

Birds chase each other from limb to limb

The endless green of the trees calms me

Makes me stop thinking for a moment

Reminds me of the beauty in the world

Reminds me there are other trees

In another room he slumbers

Peaceful and accustomed to the pain

Unaware this is my last day here

I cry for awhile,wishing I could stay

Wishing things were as they were once

But knowing there's no turning back.
