    Goodbye to you

    10-19-1986

In my mind I still see you
the way you always were to me
    dear father.

So lovely, big smile, heart of gold,
even though you were hurting so,
you lived to make me smile.
I was always the prettiest girl,
    the apple of your eye.

No one will ever be good enough
having to live up to such an impressive standard.
The epitome of goodness and truth,
so much more love to give,
    dear father,

    You had only just begun,
    and your song continues today.
    Your firstborn,
    your spitting image,
    though he lacks your character,
If I look deep enough, I can see the father I miss so much.

Though I had you for such a short time,
    dear father,
I still look for you in the face of every man I meet.
If I could have you back, even for just a few minutes,
I would tell you how much I love you
How that love not only endures but deepens.
    I miss you
    I love you
and I am glad you are my father.

This is such a loving tribute to your father. I'm sure as he looks down from Heaven, you're still the apple of his eye.

oh my god that's beautiful. I know this may sound werid but this poem went to a level that felt beyond tear worthy.

I really love this poem. I can feel your grief and my sympathy is with you. But I am sure that your father felt the love that you had for him.

very well done and sad also for the loss

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
