    Hands

No need to use a mirror
to view them. If eyes work fine,
    then hands are in view.
    Hands show age like grays
    mutiplying where all can see.
    Hands can be covered,
    pocketed, and beautified.
    Hands of a worker
    show creases and cuts;
    fingers crippled and crooked
    tell of hardship.
    Hands that have fingers
    long and slender
    perfectly shaped and embelished
    signify youth or substance.
Hands can indicate where you dwell
    Dry hands with hangnails
    and swollen knuckles
    might suffer through
    northern cold and wind
    Hands turn keys, pat dogs,
    and wave.... goodbye.

Earthy - You certainly captured a lot in this poem. Hands show so much about a persons life. Very Nice!! :) Ken

What a fine concentration on a near subject. I am not an artist, but I learned to draw my left hand really well. (Well - I'm right handed.'-)

earthly, I love this. It's like a travel album of the hand. I cannot say enough good things about its uplifting quality and unique genre. ginga

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
