Happiness

As I sit here
Looking over the past couple of days
I find I am happier
Than I have been in a long time

It is all thanks to him
My friend, my lover, my protector
He keeps me safe
Showing me a world I've never seen

Falling asleep next to him
Waking up in his strong, safe arms
Everyday is a new experience
Something new for me to discover
About this man I have choosen to share my life with

I will not run
I will not hide
We have to rest of our lives
To get to know one another

The happiness I feel
When he is near
Steals my breath away
I am his and he is mine
It is how it should be

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
