Haunted Eyes

Poem Commentary

Idk. Just something I thought of. It's personal.

Haunted Eyes

My eyes that are haunted,
That hold the secrets to
All the memories that haunt me,
Playing over in my mind,
All their fights and screams,
The pain that comes with it all,
None of it ever making sense,
As I'm about to fall.

My eyes that are haunted,
That show you the window
To the memories I play
Over and over in my mind.
Eyes that are haunted,
The ones no one wants to see,
The eyes that see so much,
Yet everyone is blind to.

My eyes that are haunted,
That people refuse to see,
The eyes that make me an outcast,
Eyes that are constantly downcast,
Eyes that are like my father's,
Nothing to remind of my mother's,
Eyes people can't stand to see,
All the different ways
People look at me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
