    He will

Many say she was born with it.
The strength burning through her eyes.
So many see but few understand why she stands
    behind that man.
His every wish is her command.
Yet still he is so blind
They all know he will never take the time
So in love she seems to be she will never see another
But he has no problem being with his other lover.
She prays to God at night for him just to see
That he really needs her in his life to make him feel complete
He has not a worry, a hint of guilt in his eyes
No he may never see what he is leaving behind.
Once she hears the truth she will walk away and be fine
But they are all certain he will miss her in time.

Too bad that this lady of strength submerged herself and drank of his nectar but never allowed him to reciprocate. Yes, there she was engaged in a veritable one-sided affair; what was missing was herself. I doubt that he will ever miss her because he never really gave and therefore he did not invest himself; that is what went wrong. Nothing wrong with this lady though her many gifts went unrewarded in this one-sided love affair. Somehow, I wish and I feel that this lady met her just rewards. Someone that recognized and appreciated her special love. Gosh, this poem does ring the bell.....far back in my memories. Thankfully, like the butterfly, I moved on.

I feel like you wrote this about a member of my family. We all go through rough patches in life, thank you for sharing your feelings with the rest of us!

Your writing shows true potential. Keep practicing.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
