HEADBANGERS BALL

Poem Commentary

Ahhh Yes .. . The memories I recall ... Every Saturday Night watchin' Headbangers Ball!

HEADBANGERS BALL

It was a Saturday Night in Nineteen Eighty-Seven ~
When the Great Metal Gods fell from Video Heaven.
We were crankin' up the tunes, as I do recall,
Sparkin' up another joint to prepare for it all!
Crackin' open a Bud as we heard the girls scream ~
"Turn off the stereo and turn on the TV!".
The room fell quiet – thick with anticipation,
As we witnessed the birth of Heavy Metal Nation!
~~~
Thru lasers & fog - Kevin Seal appeared on the screen ~
 "Are You Ready To Rock?!" he asks, and we all agree.
We were pumping fists and we were banging our heads.
With volume loud enuff to rip our speakers to shreds!
Screamin’ in succession while Strummin’ air guitars ~
Actin’ just like we were Rock-N’-Roll Superstars.
Along with Axle we sang - Welcome To The Jungle,
While Slash in Top Hat, made his guitar scream UNCLE!
~~~
Next in the line up came a band from Germany ~
Sportin’ black leather jackets and tight denim jeans.
Klaus Meine blasted out a ballad called - Still Loving You,
Then took us for a stroll - down the streets called The Zoo!
We All swayed back and forth with our lighters in hand,
While being mesmerized by the sounds of “In Trance”!
Stingin’ all of us with - their venomous tails,
They took us all by storm with their Hurricane gales.
~~~
The next Band hailed from Britain’s Heavy Metal scene ~
Takin’ over the screen like a steel death machine.
Drivin’ his Harley - across the fiery stage,
Screamin’ Hell Bent For Leather and Screechin’ The Rage!
Living After Midnight and Rockin’ Till Dawn~
He bellowed powerfully as we all sang along.
Rob Halford was the master of Breaking The Law,
The Unholy Metal Priest left us all in awe!
~~~
Two hours had passed and the show came to an end ~
We put down our air guitars and our need to pretend.
We sat down dumbfounded in our own disbelief.
To discuss the bands and the sights we’d just seen!
We made a pact to watch it every Saturday Night ~
Not knowing the impact it would have on our lives.
~~~
Now when I hear an old Metal tune -
it takes me back to recall,
The awesome times we had rocking,
while we were watching  ~
Headbangers Ball!!!
(I never intentionally banged my head) This is so full of action, lights, Dark, fire and ice with London Fog! The concerts I saw were closer to 84-86 and very 'animalated'. Great driving pulse of heart smacking energy and various vaulted voracious video images! encore! 10! (again)
Hey Blue - I'm 50 and I still find myself headbanging to both the new stuff and the old stuff - Once a metal head, always a metal head . I guess. :) Thanks again for the "Totally Awesome" comments! :) Ken
A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
