Heartaches Don't Come With Handbrakes (for LNH)

Never laughed as hard

As hard as I did with you

It hurt, it hurts more now

Turn to me, I’m already there

I took the hands off my clock

So I could never know how

How long

I had left before the time to part ways came

So strong

Or so I thought I was in this funny old game

How wrong

Thinking, praying, wishing that I wasn’t right

So long

I’m going to miss you with all of my might

Yeah, I’m going to miss you with all of my nights

So sickly happy, we once were

Seems strange that that can change

And start wearing our smiles on our brows

Turn to you, I wish I could

You were always there anytime

And if Time is a healer, then how

How can

It be responsible for destroying Us in the end?

One man

Is all I can be, but not the one that just wants to be a friend

So I ran

Tried to run away, but I was running with you all along

Flawed plan

You can’t be lost because I find you in my mind, heart and song

Yeah, I miss you because you can’t be forgotten, no matter how long you’ve been gone

Oooooh Arron I like this one a lot. I can hear a guitar strumming this out as it plays on the radio. I just love when a poem has such a melodious feel to it not to mention I've been there done that and I can so relate Excellent write :)

I can almost play a tune in the background that will fit perfectly together with these lyrics. This is a well-written piece that can easily be sang by all of us who have, at one time or another, been there :) Great job!

Thank you so much once again for taking the time to comment so kindly. Yes, I love poetry, first and foremost, but I am also a musician, so thought I'd post this song on here as a one off. It does have a very melodic, singalong tune actually, but maybe your version would be better! Thanks again!

I could see this poem working as lyrics for a song. It has that kind of feel to it for me. I especially liked the "How long/How can" stanzas.

Great minds... This one actually is a song I wrote. The stanzas you liked make up the chorus.

Well then, there you have it.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
