    Heart’s Strings

    Would to God
That you were by my side
    Not a haunting face
    I dream of at night
    Taunting, teasing me
    With your promises
Swearing that all will be kept
Yet to this day nothing, nothing
Action is needed lest I forget
    A well-spring of love
    That once poured forth
    Obvious to all
    The depth of its worth
    But time slips away
    With no one to play
Upon these, my heart’s strings left silent
    Beloved, where have you gone?

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
