Heaven is Under the Kitchen Sink

Poem Commentary

Kind of inspired by Emily Dickinson's "Crossing the Bar" poem.

Heaven is Under the Kitchen Sink

Sometimes I like to think
that heaven is under the kitchen sink
waiting for me to look inside
but i can't find it here,
i tried.

For you see
a person like me
will only feel life
as long as I'm alive.

I can't wait to cross
to the other side
after awaiting death
to find out what it's like.

But a person like me
has a hard tim pretending
that this life is insufferable
when all we do is attempt
to escape.

Looking for reason
where it just won't fit
ignoring what we know
what this life
truly is.

So when I cross
I fear I may find
That all this time
I was truly alive.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
