Poem Commentary

What regret can do to you when you dont seize your moments....

Helen, im sorry

I could get it for this, should this poem become well known,
Should i get glory and riches for seeds that were planted, sown,
But i had to say your name, because you mean something,
Not once did i ever feel you were worth nothing,
The fiery, naughty, but good intentioned girl of then,
I was at first, just happy to be your friend,

We shared a moment at the happiest place on earth,
One it seemed would give birth,
To a friendship although i wanted more,
And here is where i must let your ears emplore,
Remember when you asked me at the ripe old age of 14,
If I liked you and you wanted me to come clean,

Yeah, i lied, i lied about that,
I shouldnt have done that,
In my defense i felt that if i told you the truth it would ruin the friendship,
I know that i couldnt get with you, take off in a spaceship,
So i did what i could just to keep you in my life,
Who at that time was filled with a shitload of strife,
I wanted to tell you the truth, I really did,
I wanted to for quite sometime actually, get that load off, get rid,

Of the weight it seemed to have on me because i saw you everyday,
But for past rejections and fear of losing something more i held my tounge,
The truth could have been said that day, but instead my heart went un sung,
I wanted to tell you that even though you kinda looked like a little chola sometimes i didnt care, you were still fine to me,
I wanted to tell you that i see things in you that other people dont see,

I wanted to tell you that i was a good guy and could do right by you,
I wanted to tell you most of all, that i really do like you,
But fear it seems, can beat you worse than a man who beats his wife,
Perhaps if i was truthful then, i may have a change, a different course of life,
And as expected you hooked up with a pretty boy, a charmer,
A good guy nonetheless, hes no farmer,

But i regret that the high school years could have been me and you,
We could have learned much about each other through and through,
Shared in the struggles each other had,
Grown up to learn, whether good or bad,
Then I see you again, some years later,
You were right under my nose with the future dater,

Oh wait, he was and maybe still is, your man,
But in those few moments i thought i still could, can,
Tell you then of my wronging, my master plan,
But it was not the right moment or time,
Now the memory sits in my head well past its prime,
If i do see you again ill be sure to repent,
Im sorry Helen, forgive me for words never said, never sent!

Oh no! when are you going to tell her?!?

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
