Hello to Myself

is it ok if I fall behind in society?
do you mind if I fail to keep up?
I just want to stay here for a little while
and take in what's here to be soaked up

can I cup some water into my hands
and splash it onto my aging face?
I see a blue herron taking its instinctive dive
I just don't feel like moving from this place

am I missing something important
in a city that hides the skyline?
I feel no worries along the river banks
and I feel no need for the time

can I toss the books to the wind
and get back my rightful senses?
I want full use of this body
receiving gifts, the way I was intended

will I see you at the same place tomorrow
or will we disconnect to only passings?
there's alot of "one life" that is being missed here
between "who's questioning" and "what matters"
