Hermes

I’m just the messenger

Fate crossed our paths for a reason

It wasn’t for me

I’m immortal, I know the answers already

It was for you

All of it was for you

God heard your prayers

I was your answer

No I’m not your soul mate

I’m the one who was sent

To prep you, prepare you

For his arrival

I’m forbidden from having Love with a mortal

It will always be ripped away from me

Dare I try to have Love with the living

I am condemned to the role of the messenger

You were afraid of the world

Your reflection in the mirror

A long list of bad illusions

Only taking you further from happiness

God has had enough of watching you suffer

I was sent to give you strength

Courage, happiness…Love

To jump start your Heart

So that you’ll be ready for your Soul mate

When I’m done giving you the knowledge you need

You won’t need me anymore

You won’t want me anymore

And I will fade way

Like a Dream when you wake

I’ll always be in your Dreams

When you need me

I gave you a gift

A piece of me forever

Don’t waste my memory

Use that piece of me

For strength, confidence, companionship

You’re stronger than you realize

Now its my way to show you the light

Good you’re seeing

Cause I’m fading

Maybe I gave to too much

An aggressive jump start for your Heart

But you’re Alive again

You’re seeing the world through new eyes

Seeing things in color again

I’m a shitty messenger

Sometimes I get too close to mortals

Sometimes I think I’m living

Act human

And I get put back in my place

One tear at a time

Being the son of Zeus

Has its strings attached

I rebel in protest

One prank at a time

My punishment is being the messenger

The key to the door

Not between worlds

Between Hearts

I take Hearts down the path they’re supposed to be on

I protect the righteous Hearts path

Cupids my ass

It’s my damn curse

To give others what I can’t have

I mend Hearts

Show them the way

Pair them with their other half

But me

I had Love once, even kids

Her name was Peitho

But father did not approve

And alas

Here I arrive as the messenger

I can give you everything but forever

Realize I’m not real in this world

I’m just a Dream here

It’s the only way you’ll see, you’ll trust

Is through a Dream, an immortal

Mortal men couldn’t earn your trust

Couldn’t fix you

Or show you the way

So you were sent “the messenger”

Me

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
