How I Got Here I'm Not Sure

Poem Commentary

Yes, I work in a prison. My heart is sometimes heavy for the pain endured here. Yes, much of it is just... but there are some that are not... but it's not for me to decide...

How I Got Here I'm Not Sure

I 'woke this morning in the usual way.
It's been raining for many a day.
I haven't seen the sun for years...
In my mind I hide all my fears.
There once was a time when my feet hit the floor,
I could walk from my room and right out the door.
My barefeet on the grass and the wind in my hair,
Not a cloud in the sky and the breeze made it fair.
The gun in my pants I then rode away,
I went looking for fun in night or day.

How I got here I'm not sure...

I then found some friends and we partied 'till dawn.
I awoke on the floor all my friends they had gone.
My gun in my hand and blood on my arm...
A body at my feet , did I cause harm?
I can't remember where I went wrong,
Who was I with and what was that song?
So I awake everday in this usual way,
I see in the mirror, nothing to say.
How I got here, I'm not sure...
But I'm on this medicinal cure...
In my sadness, fears and pain,
I only see what I think is rain...
The far away look deep in my eyes,
Takes me back to the stars high in the skys.
I feel the breeze, tears from my eyes,
But, I'm not crying...

How I got here...
I'm not sure...
