Hypnotized by Darkness

Hypnotized by Darkness

Thick ghosts escaped my lips
And surrounded my shivering frame
As I gazed upon him
Like a woman hypnotized

The rain fell through the fog
And in the darkness the fog coalesced
Allowing me to see the flowers once alive and dancing
Decay like rotting skeletons beneath him

Columns of darkness
That held the shadows of my beloved beast
Slowly began blocking the light
Of his smoky pernicious eyes

From that portal of ominous darkness
His cold heavy corpse of a hand reached for mine
With gluttonous hunger
And I could not deny his touch

His voice like crystal cataclysms
Boomed and echoed through my veins
And I became slavishly seduced
By his impassioned visions of how we should be

I wondered how he could be so powerful
And yet so oddly vulnerable

Deeply entranced by his infernal breath
As if in an opiate induced sleep
I tried to explore the chilling circumstances
That fed my need to love him

And I have come to this conclusion,

I know I love him, like I know my name
The luminance of his desirous floods my mind
And I may fear for my very soul when I am with him
But I will surely tremble and fade away without him.

I could feel something in the depth of this one but I was also left confused. It was as though there was something drawing you in but also holding you away. And the darkness was worthy of remorse, great piece.

A very deep, dark read. Delightfully dark!! I think that every man and woman has at some time in their life felt these deep passions that do us bind. Thanks for the poem.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
