    Poem Commentary

my concept of a babies possible thoughts.

    I Am

    I am the essence
      of smallness and helplessness
and my world is peopled by shadows.
I see them and I know they are there.
They touch me and I know I am there.
The world is all brand new,
And there is awe is every sensation.
There is joy in every experience:
            being held,
              being talked to,
                being played with.
I see wonder in loving eyes,
      and joy in loving faces.
I feel tenderness in every touch.

Yes, I think I am going to like it here.
