Poem Commentary

Inspired by I Don't Want You by Blonde Redhead

I Don't Want You

Step

beat

into me

solid lashes

and tam tams

beep beep beep

strum me

stroke me

vibrant screams

they don't want you

don't need you

just feel

feel comfort

hasten to make the day

into a spiral

a beep beep beep

high and low

strum and stroke

continuous

they don't want you

don't need you

bump bump

don't wanna know

who you feel

not a singe of inferiority

I feel

I dreamed

absentminded

you tried

remained

lost

they feel

well all is over for you

as you don't belong

as I've been

being

but they don't want you

don't need you

how do you feel?

I wanna know

weak confrontation

is useless

useless when speaking to

a broken mirror

nothing

myself

nothing

begin again.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
