    Poem Commentary

    This poem is about two necklaces that my girlfriend and I have. One is a key, the other is a heart. The necklaces where hers. She wears the one with the heart and a key shaped hole in it. While, I wear the key. I love you Becky.

    I Have the Key to Your Heart

    As my heart beats
    I feel your necklace
    the one you gave to me
    against my warm skin
    its coldness
    wakens me
    makes me feel
    how I know I do
    alive
    your necklace makes me feel
    as if I belong
    and I know that I do

    As my breathe leaves me
    I know I'll take one more
    for the key to your heart
    is upon my chest
    and it shall not be lost
    within the ground

    As my feet hit the ground
    my fingers are touching
    what is most important to me
    the one thing that will get me through the day
    the necklace
    the key
    to the heart around your neck
    and in your chest

    and i finger it
    quietly
    desperately
    in the dark
