    • Not on here often enough, but will try to do better....

    I loved you once
    I loved you once, long ago
    When my heart was still shiny and bright
    And all that I needed in this whole wide world
    were your arms wrapped around me at night

    I loved you once, long ago
    when my eyes could see only you
    and my common sense was disregarded
    as fear of something new

    I loved you once, long ago
    and thought your anger a manly trait
    but now I am beaten down by your words
    and tantrums and cursing and hate

    I loved you once, long ago
    I guess part of me always will
    But I'm dying inside and blindly afraid
    that the child in me will be killed

    by your words and your meanness and unchecked rage
    and your inability to act your age
    has got me feeling like a fool
    for ever falling in love with you

    Yes, I loved you once, long ago
    A part of me always will
    but the most surprising thing to me
    is that I love you still.

    Well written, SK. New love is almost always blind love, but then the scales fall from our eyes in time and we see exactly who it is that we've fallen in love with. I think we've gotta pay more attention to our first instincts about a person and listen to our gut. When we look back, we see that it was a well-warranted warning on the inside that we should've listened to. Great piece here.
