Poem Commentary

A poem about my Father. i never really knew my Dad the way I should have due to, various reasons brought on by other "loved ones".

I wish I could have known you.

I wish I had known you.
Never could I know,
they told me,
you were cold.

They told me,
you were mean.
They told me,
you'd hurt me.
The man,
I thought, so fearful.
The man,
I was told hated me.

The man,
I lived with,
but only knew,
after death.
I wish,
I could have known you.

I see you,
from time to time,
in my son.
I see the truth,
you cared,
you loved
you made me who I am.

I wish you,
could have known me.

I felt your pain reading this and it reminded me of my Dad and our struggle to have a relationship. Beautifully simple and direct. Nicely done!

It is a sad thing when we are told things about parents by others that may have disliked them and were bitter. But then again maybe they were right?

so sad....I see why my poem "fault line" touched you now....I'm sorry about your situation....may you be blessed and healed.

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
