If I could not be there
When I am lost to the night
And victim of endless dreams
That always contain you
Would you remember me
If I could not be there
To greet the morrow’s sun
Would you miss my smiling face
That only smiled because of you
Would you long to see the light in my eyes
That sparkled just for you
Would you crave my velvety flesh
That hungered only for your touch
Would the simple things I’ve done
And the countless poems I’ve penned
Be enough to let you know
Just how much I truly loved you
Deep inside my heart
If I could not be there
To greet the morrow’s sun
When you think back to all the love I gave you
And how I whispered my love for you into the wind
With every breath I took
And how I loved harder when you smiled
Blushed brighter when I saw you
And fell to pieces when you laughed
Would it be enough to remind you
To listen to the gentle breeze
That carries the tender I love you’s
I wove into the wind
When I can no longer be there
To greet the morrow’s sun
And offer you the kiss
That knows only your lips
