    IN MY OWN WORDS

    In my Own Words

My mind is aglow with words from where I don’t know

They come to me at all times of day

I try to resist but they persist and persist

Until I succumb and my pen goes astray

“Four scores and seven years ago” I write

'Sounds too familiar' I say with a frown

And I grab a fresh sheet of paper

“It is a far far better thing I do” I jot down

But alas that too is a blooper

“The hills are alive..” I write with the stoke of my pen

But visions of Julie Andrews come into view

And I am forced to move on once again

Searching for a line that will ring ever true

Frustration sets in as I try one more time

To write something original and proper

“Ask not what your country. ”  A definite good line to rhyme

But no it’s just another belly whooper

I lay down my pen take a sip of red wine

And lean back in my chair and breath out

I am sure the words that are mine will arrive in good time

And my conscience will be free of doubt

Somehow I musta missed this one. And have we not all felt this from time to time...But yours is so well written.

In vino veritas. But someone's already said that.

I knew I heard that somewhere before

it can be difficult at times to find the one inspiring line that will give birth to a complete piece...I tend to think in terms of metaphor and that helps....this is a really good write, thanks.

Thanks for reading and providing feedback

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
